For more than 40 years, Bill (The Golden Voice) Baist has been living his passion for broadcasting, appearing on local television and radio, acting as a spokesman for a variety of brands such as Hawaii Pontiac Dealers, J.C. Penney, Shiseido of Hawaii, Petland, American Savings Bank, among many other banks, clothing stores, jewelers and restaurants.
Born in Honolulu, Baist graduated from University High School at Manoa in 1957. He started his broadcasting career as a staff announcer for local KAIM radio. Baist went on to pursue broadcasting at the University of Oregon, serving as a deejay and managing programming for the radio station KUGN in Eugene.
Baist returned to Hawaii and was a deejay for local stations such as KGMB and KGU. Working with numerous popular personalities like George “Granny Goose”, Hal “Aku” Lewis, and Lucky Luck.
Baist also has an outstanding career as a news anchor for KHON-TV, working with Don Picken, Bob Basso, Marsha Fried. Baist has even appeared in numerous television roles for shows like the original “Hawaii Five-0” and ABC’s “Last Resort”.
